Description
Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, ca 600 to 1000 CE. A ceremonial avian mace head, hand-carved from a caramel brown stone with mesmerizing, large round eyes and a curved beak showing finely incised details, a register presenting an interlacing, woven pattern followed by striations behind the large perforation, and finally, a pointed tail - the form most resembling that of a hummingbird. Custom stand. Size: 7.375" L x 3.25" H (18.7 cm x 8.3 cm); 6.25" H (15.9 cm) on stand
