Description
An 18th c. double-sided song sheet , one side with a hand colored engraving of lovers and "The Lovers Protestation" and the opening lyrics "No more shall buds on branches spring, nor violets paint the grove...", the engraving attributed to George Hickham, the song to William Popely; the reverse side with partial handwritten notes and lyrics attributed to Samuel Howard, 1710-1782, originally published in 1745, Titled "A Cantata by Mr Howard" with the first words: "Damon, who long defy'd love's pow'r" (SDOY1000) {TC}
Property Title:From the estate of Melisande Congdon-Doyle, 1928-2011. In 1956 she performed on stage with Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews in Broadway's ?My Fair Lady.? Retiring from the stage in 1965 Congdon-Doyle worked for Vogue, later and Harpers Bazaar. During the later 1950's, she enjoyed a long term romantic relationship with the iconic cartoonist Charles Addams, original cartoons and correspondence related to the affair being offered in this sale.
