Description

Item: This mid-20th century crazy quilt was originally collected in East Texas, and while the maker is unknown, it bears all the hallmarks of African American quilting, including the use of corduroy as a material, irregular piece work, an unexpected color combination and an asymetrical design. The overall effect is nothing less than a striking example of visual jazz. Machine pieced and feather-stitched with saffron colored thread, the quilt is backed with a neutral polished cotton. Dimensions are 84" x 69-3/4." c. late 1940s to 1960s.
