  • Item: Shoichi Hasegawa 1979 Color Etching "Bois Transparents" Signed & No. w/ COA. This is an original limited edition color etching signed in pencil and numbered XVII/XL by renowned Japanese artist, Shoichi Hasegawa with COA on the back of frame along with warrant card and short biography of the artist. This limited edition etching is numbered in Roman numeral XVII/XL, issued with COA, signed and sealed on Sept. 19, 1979. The art is framed on wood with plexi-glass protection. A rare mid-century modern art piece. SHOICHI HASEGAWA was born in Yaizu, Japan in 1929. He studied art in Tokyo and held his first one-man exhibit in that city in 1957. HASEGAWA moved to Paris where studied etching at the famous Atelier 17 with S. W. Hayter. There he developed considerable expertise as a printmaker. HASEGAWA was awarded first prize in engraving at the 1968 International Exhibition in Como, Italy. In 1972, he won the International Prize at the Third World Exposition in Tokyo. HASEGAWA is widely admired as a master of the etching medium, his subtle pastel prints are prized by the collectors around the world. An active exhibitor, HASEGAWA has held one-man shows in Tokyo, Paris, Stockholm, Melbourne, Brussels and New York. He participated in the Cracow International Biennial of Prints and in the Young Contemporary Engravers exhibit at the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris. HASEGAWA is represented in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
