Description
French Provincial Carved Oak Bookcase, 19th c., Brittany, the stepped spindled crown over double doors with glazed upper panels over figural carved lower panels, with long steel escutcheons and steel butt hinges, flanked by leaf carved pilasters, over a drawer, on a sloping base on turned bun feet, H.- 94 1/2 in., W.- 60 in., D.- 20 3/4 in.
Condition
Condition consistent with age. An approximate 3 inch crack in the center of the crown. A ½ inch chip to the upper right corner of the left door. Light rust to the hinges. A ½ inch chip in the left carved panel. Light chipping around the doors and bottom edge. Moderate chipping along 24 inches of the front right edge. A pea-size chip and 4 inch crack on the left side. A handsome example.
