A Jefferson Guard Sword and Scabbard from the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, St. Louis, 1904,
Made by the Ames Sword Co., Chicopee MA, the steel blade is etched with an acanthus leaf motif on both sides and inscribed 'Jefferson Guard' and 'Louisiana Purchase Exposition'. This sword is numbered 51 on the blade. The hilt is inscribed 'J.G' for the Jefferson Guard. The Guard was a privately hired security force of several hundred men who patrolled the fair grounds including the Olympic Games site and served as the unofficial guides.
