Description
Lowell, James Russell. Autograph letter signed by Lowell. Elmwood [Cambridge, MA], Friday, no date. 1 page, 3 blank. 7.75" x 5". Some faint creasing, rear blank with paper repair to upper margin. ******************************************* Addressed simply to "Dear Waldo," presumably Ralph Waldo Emerson, contemporary and friend of Lowell's. "I lend you two introductions which will, I hope, be what you want. If you don't go through London, (enclose?) the note to (Mr.?) Hughes with your address. Wishing you a good voyage and good luck at Oxford. I remain very cordially yours, J.R. Lowell. I have some fear this will not catch the post." Emerson visited Oxford for three days in March of 1848 during a trip to England.
