Very rare Fang World War 2 German Helmet African mask

Item Details

Description

This is a very unusual carving from the Fang peoples of Gabon, West Africa. A carved wooden German Army helmet with a Fang sculpture as top finial. The Helmet has a old aluminum plaque on one side that states it is a "Germany 1940" and a Shield and wings as other motifs. This is clearly not a original German helmet, but it is also not a new carving, the helmet has actual handling and wear and appears to be a vintage to antique example. Measures 19 x 10 x 8 inches ( not counting the durable metal display stand which is included.

Condition

Overall Good, well handled condition, shallow stress fracture on one side.
