Description
Joseph Lindon Smith (American, 1863-1950), "Untitled (Pharaoh)"-circa 1893, oil on panel, indistinctly signed and dated to lower right "Joseph Lindon Smith 1893?". Egyptian revivalist painting depicting stone pharaoh at the entrance to an Egyptian tomb or pyramid or temple, with restoration history to verso. Framed approximately 25" x 13.5". Unframed approximately 24.5" x 9.25". Provenance: Property from the Estate of a Gentleman in Macon, Georgia.
Condition
Overall with scattered abrasions and surface scuffing; commensurate with age and material. Frame rubbing to all margins. Extremely minor (pin hole-sized) in-painting scattered throughout; visible under black light. Small, circular surface loss (or abrasion) below signature (approximately 0.25” diameter). Board with slight concave bowing.
