Rembrandt Harmensz.van Rijn (Dutch, 1606-1669), "Self-Portrait with Saskia"-1636, etching, signed in plate, Biörklund's third state (of 3) (36-A). Figural print, considered by some to be a marriage portrait, depicting the artist seated at a table with his wife Saskia, the man wearing a fanciful plumed beret and a fur-trimmed overcoat, the woman wearing a veil. Plate size approximately 4.325" x 3.75". Sheet size approximately 4.125" x 3.925". Note: Rembrandt Harmensz.van Rijn is arguably the most important artist in Dutch history, having lived and worked during the so-called Dutch Golden Age.
Condition
Print is fully laid down. Backing sheet with scattered foxing and staining. Work has been cut down. Vertical surface abrasion to center left near margin; approximately spanning 1".
