Description

Johann Baptist Schweitzer (Austrian, 1790-1845), 1813. An early 19th century German violin produced by noted Viennese craftsman Johann Baptist Schweitzer (Austrian, 1790-1845)labeled to interior "Joh. Bapt. Schweitzer", having stained wood chin rest, replaced bridge marked "Hanson & Sons N.Y.". Violin approximate length 23.5". Case overall approximately 30.5" x 9.25" x 5". Bow approximate length 29".

Condition

Condition commensurate with age, material and frequent use. Wear to finish throughout; more predominant at contact points commensurate with having been played regularly. All strings later and requiring replacement. All pegs loose. Wear to scroll commensurate with use. Case with losses to exterior and wear to interior fabric. No major losses noted.
