Description
This lot consists of the stated first printing of the novel Intruder in the Dust by William Faulkner (New York: Random House, 1948).
From the dust jacket flap: "William Faulkner's seventeenth volume, his first novel to be published since The Hamlet in 1940, searches the conscience of the South. It is a study of murder and the mass mind, of an accused Negro whose guilt or innocence becomes secondary to the larger moral problems of justice itself, of a boy just old enough to find his way into manhood under the stress of conflicting values, of a community suspended momentarily between instinctive decency and bestial, irrevocable action."
This volume is bound in black cloth, and includes its original un-clipped dust jacket, with price of $3.00 listed on the front flap. The illustrated jacket is designed by E. McKnight Kauffer, with illustration of a church, a tree, and graveyard on the front panel.

Condition
The dust jacket of this vintage volume is adhered to the paste-downs. The binding is sound, with minor internal strain to the front hinge. Mild foxing appears on the outer edge of the textblock. A pencil note is present to the front fly-leaf, and remnants of a small attachment appear on the rear flyleaf. A few smudges appear on the endpapers, with the interior otherwise generally clean and bright.
