Condition

The covers (app 5.75" x 8.5"), reddish brown cloth backgrounds, white medallions in gold circles, with gold border frames, to the fronts, gilt lettering and gilt decorations to the spines, are structurally sound, with all front and back covers attached, but with end wear to most spines, darkening to the spine bases, and a number of scuffs. All the lettering is legible. Most spines are straight, or nearly so, but some are cocked. The insides are in fairly good condition, but with recurrent stains, a number to the gutters, and stains to several inside cover spreads, with some cracked gutters, most of which are inside cover spread gutters. One (blank) front end page has been removed, but the binding is secure, with no other missing and no loose pages. The lettering and the various illustrations, including the frontispiece art, are unfaded. There are few creases or notable tears. There are no stamps and few notations, these being a few pencil name or initial writings to end pages.
