The Wandering Jew by Eugene Sue, Published by Chapman and Hall, 1844. This is the first english language edition, published by Chapman and Hall in three volumes (491, 375 and 372 pages) the same years as the first french edition (1844-45), of Eugene Sue's novel, The Wandering Jew (Le juif errant). The covers (app. 5.5" x 8.5"), leather spines and outside corners, marbled boards, are worn. The gilt decorations to the spines and board borders are scuffed and with moderate fade. The pasted on title, author and volume labels are legible, but with one label missing, cracks to one other, and scuffs to all. The boards are significantly scuffed. The outside corners are bumped. There are shallow bumps and surface wear to several edges areas. The marbled inside cover spreads are in good condition, with no stains or writing, and only one attachment, a small bookstore stamp (Curson, Stationer, Exeter) to the bottom of Volume I's inside front cover. A number of pages are partly loose, but none are completely loose, and none are missing. The page edges have a number of light stains, but no substantial stains. There is shallow wear to some pages - most notably to those few that, because of the loose binding, protrude slightly at the outside edges. Most text pages are clean, but there is recurrent foxing, most notably to the illustration pages and those pages adjacent to the illustrations.
