1750 German language book regarding exploration of the greater Hudson Bay area. Details a trip by two English boats in search of the Northwest Passage. Written by Henry Ellis and translated into German. Includes 11 engravings of which two are maps. Illustrations also include natural wild life, eskimo/inuit indians, etc. Title reads; "Reise nach Hudsons Meerbusen, weiche von zweyen Englischen Schiffen, der Dobbs-Galley und California in den Jahren 1746 und 1747 wegen Entdeckung einer nordwestlichen Durchfahrt in die Sud-see verrichtet worden, nebst einer richtigen Abzeichnung der Kuste, und einer kurzen Naturgeschichte des Landes, Beschreibung der Einwohner, auch einer wahren Vorstellung der Naturgeschichte des Landes, Beschreibung der Einwohner, auch einer wahren Vorstellung der Unstande und Grunde, welche die kunftige Erfindung einer solchen Durchfahrt wahrscheinlich machen. A loose English translation reads; Travel to Hudson's sea-bus which was done by two English ships of the Dobbs-Galley and California in the years 1746 and 1747 due to the discovery of a north-west in the south sea, along with a proper landmark and a short natural sign of the country description of the inhabitants. also one true representation of the circumstancs and reason which make the future invention of such a passage probable. Publisher: Gottingen, Berlegts Abram Vandenhoeck, 1750. Paper wraps. Missing front cover and possibly fly leaf. deckle edges and uncut leaves. All eleven plates present and attached of which two are fold-out maps. Numbered pages of text total 364 plus preface and a 10 page register. Exterior dimensions when closed are approximately 5-1/4" X 8-1/4" X 1-1/2".
