Raymond John Wendell, Am., 1917-2005, native of Nebraska, Atomic Era Surrealism, large oil on canvas, signed and dated 1949 lower right.
NOTE: Wendell served in the United States Navy during World War Two and later attended Yale. A similar smaller work was featured in Life Magazine in 1948. In 1952, Wendell was commissioned by legendary designer Dorothy “Dot” Marckwald (1898-1986) to paint ten murals on aluminum panels for the new American ocean line S.S. United States. It appears that Wendell later disappeared from public view and died in obscurity. (TCUR3099){TC}
