Description
A group of two Antique Tortoiseshell Cases. English and Japanese, late 19th century. The English, a rectangular tortoiseshell veneered and mother of pearl inlaid card case with hinged top, that opens to reveal a velvet lined interior, unmarked. The Japanese, a gold lacquered tortoiseshell inro box with rounded ends depicting a phoenix bird perched amid branches, opposite side with potted plant with flying butterfly overhead, unmarked. English card case measures approximately 3.75" x 2.75". Inro box measures approximately 4" x 2.25".
