Description
This is an excellent Plains Native American Indian parfleche polychrome painted knife sheath from the mid to late 19th century with a period correct trade knife. The sheath shows an excellent parfleche manufacture with wonderful polychrome mineral painted geometric period correct designs along both sides. The piece has been sewn with sinew trade hide and shows a hide fringe and top belt strap still intact having a large pony wound glass trade bead. The sheath shows some loss to the finish, but overall a very fine authentic 19th century example. The piece also comes with a 19th century trade knife showing a hardwood grip riveted to the skinner style blade showing an iridescent bare metal case hardened like finish (unmarked). The sheath measures 3" x 9.5" and the knife is 9.5" with a 5" blade.
