Description
CONTINENTAL NEOCLASSICAL PRINTS, LOT OF TWO, engraving on laid paper (each), comprising a Robert van Audenaerde (Flemish, 1663-1748) depiction of the so-called "Farnese Bull", a marble sculptural group likely dating from the 1st century AD that was unearthed in the 16th century in Rome; and a Giuseppe Sforza Perini (Italian, 18th century) image of Hercules standing astride a plinth while sporting a lion skin and holding club, a submissive Cerberus sits beside him, likely after an existing Classical Period statue. Each loosely matted (neither appears to be laid down). First half 18th century. Hercules example (larger) 18 3/4" x 12 1/8" plate, 28" x 20" OA.
Prints in very good visual condition with minor toning and foxing. Hercules example with minor crease lines and stray pencil mark at bottom right. Not examined out of mattes.
