East Asia, China, Shang Dynasty, ca. 1600 to 1050 BCE. A skillfully carved stone amulet or pendant representing a bird in profile - possibly the chaj-cha bird - with a pronounced crest, curved beak, incised eyes, and wings with openwork detailing to suggest its plumed feathers - perforated through the neck for suspension. Custom stand. Size: 2.75" L x 1.25" W (7 cm x 3.2 cm); 4" H (10.2 cm) on stand
