Description
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Valdivian or Chorrera, ca. 2300 to 1200 BCE. Skillfully carved from a large clam shell of creamy white and tawny orange hues, a very large pendant depicting a human figure, perhaps a shaman, standing in the center with his eyes, nose, arms, legs, feet, and toes carefully delineated - flanked by a pair of stylized birds or serpents - their forms comprised of zigzag and circular motifs. The large pendant is laterally perforated for suspension. Size: 2.375" L x 2.875" W (6 cm x 7.3 cm)
