Description
New World, Guatemala, ca. early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden mask depicting a man with a long beard, worried lines carved as grooves into the forehead, and a narrow face. Red paint gives him rosy cheeks and highlights his lower lip, while dark brown/black paint adds eyes and eyebrows as well as details on the beard. Guatemala has a long tradition of wooden folk art masks, used in dances and ceremonies held throughout the year. Comes with custom stand. Size: 5" W x 9.3" H (12.7 cm x 23.6 cm); height on stand: 12.4" (31.5 cm)
