An usual woven ikat cotton summer walking dress and a mantlet-pelerine, mid 1830s, the cotton possibly Madras,woven in brown, green and blue with pleated bands to the bodice caught in a central band, high waistline, very full Imbecile sleeves, fastened by hooks and eye to the back, bust 81cm 32in, waist 64cm, 25in Pelerines remained popular throughout the 1830s cf English Women's Clothing in the 19th Century, C. Willett-Cunningham p.115, pubd.1937 `The Pelerine continues an obstinate mode, though many ladies who are conscious of really fine figures dispense with a disguise invented to improve bad ones'.
Condition
damp speckling generally, small splits to left cuff and to brown stained area which is on the curve of the left outer sleeve, fair condition but interesting piece and not altered
