Description
Chinese "Faux Bronze" Ceramic CenserProbably 19th century, of fang ding form, with slightly concave sides, each of which is decorated with two stylized dragons confronting each other on a geometric ground, below a studded band, the whole raised on four blade-form legs, each with zoomorphic and archaic scroll detail, the base with a three-character "Hall of the South Office" mark within a square reserve, the later cover, possibly zitan with lacquered finish, surmounted with a carved finial of a figure lying on a standing elephant.
overall h. 13-1/2", w. 8", d. 8"Provenance: From the estate of Ouyang Ju (Mayor of Canton, 1946-1949).
Condition
One leg has been broken, repaired and reglued to the body.
