Description
DESCRIPTION: U.S. WWI field surgical kit with numerous surgical tools in a canvas roll. Steel cases marked "Pat'd 1912". PROVENANCE: Per consignor information belonged to Dr. Charles Snodwn Pancoast of Camden, New Jersey. Dr. Pancoast studied at Jefferson Medical College and then graduated from the Medico-Chirurgical College in Philadelphia in 1910. He was one of the first surgeons to help in the first World War, leaving in 1915 for the Balkans and served in hospitals in Hungary and Bulgaria. He was considered to be a spy by the Germans and ill-treated during his time in Bulgaria. MEASUREMENTS: Unrolled length 64" x 24". CONDITION: Near complete (see images).
