Description
Wilcox, Crittenden & Company (American, est. 1869). Boxed nautical ship's compass. Brass, bronze, glass, wood. Early 20th C. Box: Height: 4", Length: 6", Depth: 6". Compass has a diameter of 4". Compass mechanism housed in a brass frame with a blackened bronze compass bowl. Serial number on bottom has been obscured but reads "C ... 8". Compass mechanism housed in original dovetailed box with latch.
Condition
Fair Condition; losses of blackened bronze finish on underside of compass. Metal inside compass has some rust damage. Small chip to glass face of compass. Moves smoothly. Box appears to be missing an element on the back. Box has general wear from age and use, including a crack across the top. Green felt loose from interior lid.
