Description
Far East, Japan, early Meiji Period, ca. 1868 to 1900 CE. A solid silver sculptural depiction of an exceedingly amorous couple with a round ruby cabochon in a gold bezel adorning the kimono. The Japanese developed a tradition of graphic art showing all matter of sexual positions and situations in woodblock prints, netsukes, and other forms. Some examples are so explicit that they are almost humorous; however, most are of a serious intent and demonstrate the openness of sex in the Japanese culture of the 1850's. Size: 1.5" L x 2.125" W x 1.625" H (3.8 cm x 5.4 cm x 4.1 cm) Weight: 233.1 grams
