Description
Colonial Sterling Silver Covered Sugar Bowl, 18th Century. The inverted pear form ending in a circular foot with a domed lid with a cylindrical molded ring, the domed lid can be inverted for use as a shallow bowl. engraved initials on base of sugar bowl "P. D E". Elias Pelletreau (New York 1726-1810) Total silver weight 10.78 troy oz. Height 6 inches (15.24 cm). Diameter 4 1/2 inches (11.4 cm). Elias Pelletreau was born in Southampton in 1726. His father was in the whaling business and of Huegnot descent. At 15, Elias became an apprentice to a New York silversmith. By 1750 Pelletreau launched the Pelletreau silver shop, which still exists today as silversmith shop.
