late 19th century, Anglaise case, classical form with four Corinthian columns, the beveled glass top reveals an escapement, hinged handle above; the painted porcelain dial is marked JAS MUIRHEAD & SONS and painted with Roman numerals, blued steel hands indicate the time, both porcelain sides are painted with idealized courtship scenes; the back of the movement is numbered 893.
