Description
Two Russian faience soup plates and a Russian faience bowl from the service for the Imperial Tver Palace, Auerbach Manufactory, Kuznetsovo, 1820s. All in a fine earthenware with cream glaze and floral borders in blue, the undersides of the plates with the manufacturer's impressed Cyrillic mark Auerbakh Korcheva and the impressed name of the palace Tverskogo dvortsa, the underside of the bowl with manufacturer's impressed mark. 1312-132A,B, 1215-088. Dia. of soup plates: 9 3/4 in. Bowl: H 3 in. x dia. 6 3/8 in. Andrei Auerbach's factory in the village of Kuznetsovo near Tver produced an extremely high-quality faience rivaling the finest earthenwares imported from England. The superiority of his wares earned him three major commissions for Imperial services for the palaces at Tver and Pavlovsk and for use at Court ( Pridvornaia kontora ).
