Description
Thick potted, Squared body, with circle opening mouth and base, raised on shallow foot. Essentially tubes with a square cross-section and a circular hole, having corners in form of a traditional hair pin along the sides stylized faces were stacked as modules, one atop another. All reserved in pale-creme-grayish glaze that is fully opaque with an almost matte finish. Its crackle pattern is exaggerated, standing out in bold black. The foot rim remain unglazed, revealed reddish-brown ground with speckles firing marks.
The shape of the Cong with its square and circular shape could be interpreted as 'the unity of heaven and earth' where the square represents the earth and a circle represents the heaven.
Mark on Base, a six blue seal script -ZhuanShu- characters reign mark, QianLong Reign Period of Great Qing (1735-1796)

The private collections of Earl Sorensen, based out of Atlanta, is known as a prominent Buddha collector. A International businessman whom trades with various Asian countries during the 1960s. On a business trip in Western China, he received a Buddha statue as gift from a monk. Since then, he has became fascinated with Buddhist artifacts and Eastern cultures. After many decades, Earl Sorensen has planned his retirement, and decided to pass his beloved collections to appreciate collectors. Earl Sorensen's collections can be found from Lot-55 through Lot-65, and from Lot-93 through Lot-110.
