Description
Fine large chromo of Continental Army Artillery, 1885. 11.5 x 13.25 (14.625 x 16.5) Vivid color on this scarce chromolithograph titled Artillery 1771-1783 depicting an American Continental Army artillery team in battle action. Constructed by G. H. Buek from original painting by H. A. Ogden. Created by an expert lithographer who carefully reproduced the color areas on a set of stone plates. These were used to print each color, sometimes using as many as two dozen separate plates to produce the final image. Because the lithographic artist is actually creating a new interpretation of the original painting, chromolithographs are considered original works of art. From the scarce “Uniform of the Army of the United States from 1774 to 1889” Illustrated second edition, published by the Quartermaster General of the United States Army.
