HUXLEY THOMAS: (1825-1895) English Biologist, known as 'Darwin's Bulldog' for his advocacy of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. A.L.S., T H Huxley, four pages, 8vo, London, 10th January 1880's (largely illegible), to Mr. Burke. Huxley informs his correspondent, in part, 'I thank you very much for your congratulations as I have every reason to believe that I shall shortly have a right to do so. But at present I am only in the position of a Bishop designate - the newspapers of course being quite wrong in all their announcements' further remarking, 'I may add that I do not intend to leave to be a 'fisher of men' and that a special landing net shall always be ready for you (in the hands of my daughter Nettie) at the front door'.
