OPPENHEIMER J. ROBERT: (1904-1967) American Theoretical Physicist, known as the 'father of the atomic bomb' for his role in the Manhattan Project during World War II. T.L.S., Robert Oppenheimer, one page, 4to, New Jersey, 25th June 1956, to Marjorie Robinson, on the printed stationery of The Institute for Advanced Studies, Princeton. Oppenheimer thanks his correspondent for her letter, and for the invitation to lecture at Douglass College, informing her, 'I wish that it were possible for me to accept, however, I have agreed to give the William James Lectures at Harvard in the spring of 1957…' With three file holes to the left edge, and light age wear, otherwise VG
