Dr. Mannheimer (1793-1865) was born in Copenhagen, where he studied Talmud and Jewish studies. He adopted a reform worldview and subsequently made changes in the customs of the synagogue. In 1921, he was appointed by a group of Viennese Jews as their 'spiritual leader'. Over the years, he became closer to orthodox Judaism and even argued with the extreme reform Jews. He was also known for his struggle for the rights of Jews.
