Three rare Russian emigre imprints of the Zaitsev publishing house, with typography by L.M.Abramovich. All the illustrations are uncredited:



• Kot i Lisa [Cat and Fox] 5 x 7.5", 14pp. Original color pictorial wrappers, with 2 full-page black-and-white illustrations. Later edition, first published in 1929.

• Dobrinya Nikitich [Bogatiri i Vitaz, Russkoy Zemli] 7.5 x 10", 12pp. Original color pictorial wrappers, with 2 full-page color plates, in the Bilibin style of Russian folklore art.

• Po Lugam i Lesam 7.5 x 10", 8pp. Original color pictorial wrappers, with 2 full-page color fantasy illustrations.





The Zaitsev publishing house flourished during the 1930s in Harbin, center of Russian (and Jewish) emigre life in Asia during the 1930s, until the wartime Japanese occupation of the city; These were published in the last known year of Zaitsev activity during World War II. Harbin Russian children's book imprints are rare.
