Smokey Tunis (1915-1999) is a bit of a mystery before 1978, when he moved his home and studio to Larchmont NY, and Mamaroneck, NY respectively. He lived and represented a bohemian lifestyle to locals, many of whom supported his artistic efforts by collecting his work, whether his folksy wood furniture or his found-media paintings. This painting is one of 5 in this auction by Tunis. All five of these paintings were purchased directly from Tunis by the consignor, a close life-long friend.
