Description
Large Andre Vincent Becquerel (French, 1893-1981) Horse Racing Steeplechase Bronze. With the artist's signature, the bronze was cast at the Etling Foundry in Paris and bears their hallmark. A pair of horses and their riders in a heated neck to neck race towards the finish line. Mounted on green marble base. Rarely does a piece this size by Becquerel come up for auction. Measures 21" longx10" wide and 14" high. Weight is 50 pds. Please contact them or your own choice of shipper directly. *** Andre Vincent Becquerel was born in St. Andre-Farivilliers. He studied at the l’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris under Hector Lemaire and Prosper Lecourtier. He specialized in fine animal sculpture and regularly exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais from 1914 to 1922, where he became a lifetime member. Becquerel worked for the Editeur Parisiens Edmond Etling in Paris and created a monumental sculpture in patinated plaster for the “Pavillon international” at the Exposition Internationale in Paris in 1937.
