LARRY HORSEMAN HAND CARVED BOB WHITE PAIR
Item Details
Description
Hand Carved and Painted Pair of Bob White by master carver Larry Horseman. Male and Female with exceptional detail. On wood base with 1/2 inch plexiglass case. Signed on a leave by Larry O. Horseman and dated 1985. In case 13"x13"x16". Weight is 13 pds. PROVENANCE: A Private Charleston SC Estate. Larry Horseman began carving decorative wildfowl as much by accident as by design. After graduating from Delaware State College in 1973, with a degree in Wildlife Management, he worked several years as a fisheries biologist assisting in the study of the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal and portions of the lower Delaware Estuary. In 1976, he was introduced to Bill Veasy who was teaching decoy carving classes from his home in Newark, DE. Larry interviewed Bill and wrote an article that was published in the Philadelphia Inquirer. Through this meeting, he decided to take formal decoy carving lessons and studied with Bill for the next year. Larry soon joined the Ward Foundation and began to participate in competitions and won several awards for his work.In the late 1970's and early 1980's, Larry Horseman provided decoys and decorative carvings for several Ducks Unlimited chapter benefits in South Carolina. When the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition formed in Charleston in 1982, he was asked to provide a list of carvers to be invited to exhibit in this premier show. Larry appeared at the first show in 1983 and exhibited his work at SEWE for the next 20 years. He has also participated in the Easton Waterfowl Festival in Easton, MD., and several smaller shows in New York and New Jersey. Over the years Larry Horseman has carved over 400 pieces and sold them to clients throughout the United States, Europe and South Africa. All his carvings are original, one-of-a-kind unique pieces. Each piece is meticulously hand carved and hand painted. He creates approximately only 20 works of art annually and accepts commissions to suit the taste of the collector. Most of his carvings represent waterfowl but he also carves songbirds, shorebirds and upland game birds as well.
