Description
Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Coggled Decoration and Scalloped Handles, attributed to Paul Cushman, Albany, NY, circa 1810, ovoid jar with footed base, squared rim, and arched handles, one with scalloped edge. Decorated around the shoulder with a coggled flowering vine motif, brushed over in cobalt slip in one side. Additional cobalt brushed across the tops of the handles. Heavy chipping to base. An in-the-firing separation on underside, which does not extend through to interior. A small rim chip. A few typical in-the-firing iron pings to surface. A 1 3/4" in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder.
