Description
The 1927 rematch between world heavyweight champion Gene Tunney and former champion Jack Dempsey remains one of the most controversial fights of all time. Held at Chicago's Soldier Field and drawing the first two million dollar gate in entertainment history, the match is famous for the "long count" over the fallen Tunney, during which Dempsey chose not to follow referee Dave Barry's orders to go to a neutral corner, allowing Tunney precious extra seconds on the ground. Debates over the length of the count, and the legitimacy of Tunney's victory, rage to this day. Boxing fans will certainly appreciate this ticket to that famed World Heavyweight Championship match on September 22, 1927, on which is printed the price, location, rain check details, and the seat for that ticket-holder. The ticket is framed with a Washington Post article about the iconic fight, presenting the exciting narrative behind this piece of history. Display is 28.75 x 16.5in. Framed.
