Description
New World, Mexico, ca. 1950 CE. A charming example of a gilt silver honeypot with a bee and flower motif, made by the silver masters from Taxco, Los Castillo. The conical pot's fitted lid is capped by a mixed metal bee with beady copper eyes. The matching dipper - which is designed to fit into the upper part of the pot and lid - has a mixed metal and purple crystal flower on it. Both the dipper and the bottom of the pot are stamped with a round maker's mark reading "LOS CASTILLO TAXCO" and the dipper is additionally stamped "101." Size of pot: 3.5" W x 4.8" H (8.9 cm x 12.2 cm)
