Rome, Imperial Period, Hadrian, ca. 117 to 138 CE. AE obol (4.8 grams). Egypt, Alexandria; Struck in regnal year 11 (AD 126/7). Obverse: Laureate bust of Hadrian right. Reverse: Panther standing r.; date above. Geissen 974. Kampmann-Ganschow 134, 32.443. Size: 0.7" W (1.8 cm)
This coin is from the middle of Hadrian's very successful reign (117 to 138 CE). Hadrian, the third of the Five Good Emperors, built one of the Roman Empire's most lasting monuments: Hadrian's wall, across northern England, as well as rebuilding the Pantheon and constructing the Temple of Venus and Roma.
