Whiting 1908 'Madam Jumel' Claw Footed Sterling Silver Sugar Tongs. This are antique claw footed sterling sugar tongs by Whiting Manufacturing Co. in the 1908 pattern 'Madam Jumel. They are marked with the Whiting hallmark PAT. 1909 and STERLING. There is a hallmark in the crest of the pattern on one side only. I believe it is a 'G' and it is in a font classic to the time period. These are 4-1/4" long and weigh 22.8 grams. There is a 1-1/4" opening.
Whiting Silver was founded in 1866 by William Dean Whiting, who had earned a reputation as a master maker of sterling silver. During the late 19th century, the firm was one of the premier manufacturers of sterling silver flatware, hollowware, and other decorative objects such as snuff boxes.
