Description
A rare and well-formed silver pendant, in the form of the symbol that represents the hair of the Great Mother Goddess, Ninhurshag. Mesopotamian, c. 1200 - 800 BC, cut from sheet silver with suspension loop at top. 22 x 14mm, with an even dark grey patina. The same symbol also represents the hair of Hathor in Egyptian mythology. The pendant may have been part of a woman's necklace. Ex East Coast private; Ex California Museum of Ancient Art, acquired 1989 (1453).
