Description
**Previously Listed At $250**
Near East, Persia (Iran), Nishapur, ca. late 10th century to early 13th century CE. A green-glazed, coil-made ceramic vessel with a miniature amphora form. The pottery is a coarse, pale brown, and the glaze green: in some places a deep color with iridescent patina and in others an apple green. The body of this plate and others of its style is made of finely ground quartz mixed with clay; this created a white surface on which the artists could paint designs directly. The glaze is alkaline, with a copper base to give it its color, and would be poured over the clay. Size: 4.4" W x 5.55" H (11.2 cm x 14.1 cm)
Provenance: private New Jersey, USA collection, acquired over twenty years ago
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
