Description
An elegant curling leaf motif Reppousé Sterling Silver coffee pot by Durgin. The foliage reppousé work decorates the base and the top of the pot, including the lid with a finial top. Also, a smaller and just as lovely leaf pattern decorates the spout. The base of the coffeepot has a sterling mark, Theodore B. Starr, maker's mark, Durgin (William B. Durgin Co, Providence, RI, 1880-1905), and the no. 120. Additionally, the base has been personalized with an etched dedication in lovely writing that says: From Leonard, Nov. 27, 1889. Theodore Starr was a silversmith who opened for business in new York in 1862, at No.18 John Street. This teapot was manufactured around 1877-1889 when Theodore B. Starr finally settled without any partners and was at the height of his success. This distinctive teapot is in great condition, silver has no scratches and all parts are in perfect working order. The teapot measures 7 3/4 inches tall by 7 inches from spout to handle. Its base is 3 1/2 inches wide. It weighs 348 grams or 11.2 troy ounces. A very romantic coffee pot for a lovely after dinner serving in elegant sterling silver.
