This beautiful Georg Jensen sterling silver large serving spoon is from the 'Acanthus' pattern of his collection, which was released in 1917. The marking on the back of the spoon dates this piece of silverware to post-1945. The spoon has an almost perfectly circular bowl, and its handle has a pattern that hints to the Art Nouveau Style of that era. The pattern is nice and crisp and free of any dings or noticeable scratches. The scrolling lines near the top decorated finial and the bottom are a lovely decorative element that make this spoon even more pleasurable to serve with. The spoon is 8 inches long, 2 1/2 at the round of the bowl, weighs 73 grams, or approximately 2 troy ounces, and it is marked "STERLING DENMARK", "GEORG JENSEN". George Jensen was inspired by nature and the ideals of the Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts movement. In 1907, he began collaborating with the painter Johan Rohde in translating the forms of post-Impressionist painting into the medium of silver; the acanthus pattern we see here is his design with the fine Danish silver-work of Jensen.
