Description
Far East, Korea, ca. mid 20th century CE. A hand carved and painted Andong Hahoetal mask, signed and/or inscribed on the verso. This image is a sacred treasure believed to have protected Korea's villages for centuries, and this example features a characteristically articulated mouth, bold features and a wrinkled complexion. Braided rope-like 'hair' is attached to the temples and falls past the visage's chin, and a faded black fabric head covering is attached to the verso. One of the most quintessential mask forms from Korea! Size: 9.25" L x 6.75" W (23.5 cm x 17.1 cm)
