Description
A Near Eastern terracotta double-headed Astarte figurine, c. 1200 - 1000 BC, both heads sharing the thick, columnar body and with shorts arms, each hand on the chest. The facial features are stylized with exaggerated noses and ears, one head wearing a collar and the fact it is slightly smaller and lower than the other indicates this probably a couple, a man and a woman. H: 3 in (7.6 cm). Light surface deposits and mounted on old wood base. Ex Christies, Dec. 13, 1980, Lot 5.
